Disneyland to Stop Selling MagicBand+: What It Means for Guests

Disneyland Resort is reportedly planning to discontinue on-property sales of MagicBand+, according to initial reports from reporter Scott Gustin. While this may sound like a major change, the reality is a bit more nuanced. MagicBand+ isn’t going away, but how you purchase it is changing.
Here’s everything you need to know about the future of MagicBand+ at Disneyland.
MagicBand+ Sales Ending at Disneyland
Once current inventory sells out across Disneyland Resort, MagicBand+ will no longer be available for purchase in the parks or on property.
However:
- It will still be available online via DisneyStore.com
- It will continue to be sold at Walt Disney World Resort
- DisneyBand+ will remain available on Disney Cruise Line
This means guests who still want a MagicBand+ for Disneyland will need to plan ahead and purchase one before their visit.
MagicBand+ Functionality Is NOT Going Away
Despite the change in sales, MagicBand+ will continue to function at Disneyland Resort.
Guests can still use the wearable for:
- Park entry
- Lightning Lane check-ins
- Linking PhotoPass photos
- Interactive experiences throughout the parks
This includes enhanced features during nighttime spectaculars like:
- World of Color
- Fantasmic!
As well as interactive gameplay in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, including the popular bounty hunting experience.
A Quick Look Back at the Band
MagicBand first launched at Walt Disney World in 2013, revolutionizing the guest experience by allowing for:
- Hands-free park entry
- Hotel room access
- Payments and purchases
- PhotoPass integration
MagicBand+ debuted later, adding:
- Interactive lighting and haptics
- Enhanced show experiences
- Play features in select lands
It arrived at Disneyland in October 2022, expanding these features to the West Coast.
What This Change Means for Guests
For most guests, this update simply means:
- You won’t be able to buy MagicBand+ inside Disneyland
- You’ll need to purchase ahead of time online
The core experience of using it inside the parks remains unchanged.
Is MagicBand+ Worth It?
While MagicBand+ offers added convenience and interactive features, guest opinions have been mixed.
Some appreciate:
- Hands-free access
- Enhanced show interactions
- Fun extras like Galaxy’s Edge gameplay
Others feel:
- The added features are limited
- Daily charging is inconvenient
- The original MagicBand offered a simpler, more practical experience
Final Thoughts
The decision to stop selling MagicBand+ at Disneyland is an interesting shift, but not necessarily a major one for most guests.
The wearable is still supported and fully functional, but it’s clear Disney is adjusting how and where the product is offered.
If you’re planning a Disneyland trip and want to use it during your visit, just be sure to grab one online before you go.
