New Disney World Airport Luggage Transfer Service Lets Guests Skip Baggage Claim at MCO

One of the best parts of a Disney World vacation is finally landing in Orlando and knowing the fun is about to begin. One of the less exciting parts? Standing around baggage claim waiting for your luggage.

Well, there’s some good news for guests flying into Orlando International Airport (MCO)!

A new luggage transfer service through BagCheck will allow guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels to skip baggage claim and have their checked bags delivered directly to their resort.

And if you’ve been visiting Disney World long enough to remember the convenience of Disney’s Magical Express, this might sound a little familiar! But there are definitely some BIG differences. (Meaning, there’s unfortunately no bus to take you to and from the resort…you’ll still need to find your own transportation.)

How Does Disney World’s New Airport Luggage Transfer Service Work?

The idea is pretty simple. Instead of picking up your checked bags at Orlando International Airport and hauling them to your resort, BagCheck takes care of that part for you.

Here’s how it works:

1. Check your bags with your participating airline before your flight.
2. Fly into Orlando International Airport.
3. Skip baggage claim when you land.
4. BagCheck collects your luggage at the airport.
5. Your bags are delivered directly to your Disney Resort hotel.

According to the service details, luggage should arrive at your resort within approximately four hours of landing.

That means you can head to your resort, grab something to eat, visit Disney Springs, or even start your first park day without dragging your suitcases along.

There is one important thing to know, though. The service is only available for eligible domestic flights, both arriving and departing.

And since your bags won’t necessarily arrive at the same time you do, I’d recommend keeping anything you might need right away in your carry-on. Think medications, swimsuits, a change of clothes, or anything else you wouldn’t want to wait several hours to get.

You’ll Need to Register Before Your Trip

Keep in mind, this isn’t something you can decide to use when you land in Orlando.

Guests must register for the service in advance, with registration opening 30 days before departure and closing five days before departure.

So if this is something you’re interested in using, you’ll need to sign up ahead of time.

Which Airlines Are Participating?

For now, BagCheck’s Disney World luggage transfer service is available through four airlines:

• American Airlines
• United Airlines
• Southwest Airlines
• JetBlue

If you’re flying another airline, you won’t be able to take advantage of the service just yet. There’s always the possibility that more airlines could be added, but nothing additional has been announced.

Which Disney World Resorts Offer Airport Luggage Transfer?

The service is starting with a limited selection of Walt Disney World Resort hotels, including Value and Moderate Resorts.

Participating resorts include:

• Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort
• Disney’s All-Star Music Resort
• Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort
• Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
• Disney’s Pop Century Resort
• Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
• Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
• Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter
• Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside

If you’re staying at a Deluxe Resort, you’ll have to wait and see whether Disney expands the service. Disney has been adding additional resorts slowly though, so I feel that it’s only a matter of time before the Deluxes start getting added.

Is Disney World’s New Luggage Transfer Service Worth It?

I can see this being especially helpful for families traveling with young children, guests bringing several suitcases, or anyone arriving early in the day who wants to get their vacation started without worrying about luggage.

Imagine landing in Orlando, heading straight to your transportation, and getting to Disney World without stopping at baggage claim. That’s a pretty nice way to begin a vacation!

The biggest things to keep in mind are the participating airlines and resorts, the advance registration requirement, and the time it takes for your luggage to arrive. However, I don’t think anyone is going to complain about spending less time at baggage claim and more time enjoying Disney World.

While this isn’t quite the return of Magical Express, it’s nice to see an option that could make traveling to Walt Disney World a little easier.

Hopefully, we’ll see the service expand to more airlines and Disney Resort hotels in the future.
