Spaceship Earth Is Getting a Major Update at EPCOT

One of EPCOT’s most iconic attractions is about to enter a new chapter.

Disney has announced that Spaceship Earth will be reimagined! This will bring the beloved attraction into the internet age and beyond. This marks the first major update to the attraction in nearly 20 years.

While Spaceship Earth has traditionally focused on the history and evolution of human communication, the Imagineering team is taking that idea in a broader direction while staying true to the spirit of EPCOT.

The new focus will be on human connection and how people continue to connect with one another and how technology has transformed the ways we communicate and share ideas.

Every Scene Will Be Updated

Perhaps the biggest news is that this won’t be a minor refresh.

Disney shared that every single scene within Spaceship Earth will be updated in some way, shape, or form.

That means guests can expect to see changes throughout the entire attraction as Imagineers bring the story into the modern era and look toward the future.

While Disney has not yet revealed exactly what those changes will look like, the announcement suggests that both the classic elements fans know and love and the attraction’s storytelling will receive attention.

From Human Communication to Human Connection

The current version of Spaceship Earth takes guests on a journey through the history of human communication. It goes from prehistoric cave paintings through major technological breakthroughs.

The reimagined attraction will expand that concept.

Rather than focusing solely on how humans communicate, the new version will explore the larger idea of how humans connect.

That broader theme fits naturally with EPCOT’s longstanding emphasis on innovation, discovery, culture, and the ways technology can bring people together.

For now, Disney is keeping many of the specifics under wraps.

It seems that additional details about the new scenes, characters, technology, storyline, and overall experience will be announced at a later date.
