Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent: New Attraction Coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s Tropical Americas

Disney has revealed major new details about the highly anticipated Indiana Jones attraction coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World as part of the transformation of the former DinoLand U.S.A. area into Tropical Americas.

First announced as part of the massive Tropical Americas project, the attraction will transform the former DINOSAUR experience into an Indiana Jones adventure inspired by the ancient Maya. Now, thanks to D23, we finally have an official attraction name, new story details, and a glimpse at what guests can expect when they join Indy on his latest adventure.

The new attraction will be called Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent.

Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent

The new attraction will feature revolutionary Audio-Animatronics figures, an original storyline, and an adventure designed specifically for Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Guests will journey alongside Indiana Jones beneath an ancient temple ruin, where the story will explore Maya culture and its profound connection to nature.

The setting provides a natural fit for Animal Kingdom, combining adventure and exploration with the culture, history, and natural world of the Tropical Americas.

And, of course, things don’t go exactly according to plan for Dr. Jones.

What Is the Story of Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent?

Guests will rendezvous with Indiana Jones as he explores a mysterious temple located near a once water-filled underground cave known as a cenote.

According to local legend, a passageway beneath the temple leads directly to the Maya Underworld. But the passage isn’t unprotected.

Legend says the Underworld is guarded by a massive serpentine creature known as the Tsukán.

As guests venture into the temple alongside Indy, they’ll become unwittingly pulled through a portal and transported into the Maya Underworld.

That’s when the adventure really begins.

Riders will encounter a series of dangerous obstacles and creatures as they attempt to escape, including:

• Monstrous bats
• Larger-than-life scorpions
• Fire and flames
• Snakes
• The legendary Tsukán

And if the attraction’s story is any indication, guests should prepare for a very large snake during the finale. Snakes….why did it have to be snakes?

Harrison Ford Becomes Indiana Jones

One of the most exciting details revealed about the attraction is the involvement of Harrison Ford.

For the first time, Ford will serve as the actual model for an Indiana Jones Audio-Animatronics figure.

That means guests won’t simply be seeing a generic interpretation of Indy! They’ll see an Audio-Animatronics figure based directly on Harrison Ford’s appearance.

It’s a significant milestone for the iconic character and could make the encounter with Indiana Jones feel more authentic than ever.

A New Adventure Designed for Animal Kingdom

While Indiana Jones has appeared throughout Disney Parks around the world, Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent is being designed specifically for Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The attraction’s story connects adventure and exploration with Maya culture and the relationship between people and the natural world.

That connection is an important part of what makes the project different from previous Indiana Jones attractions.

Rather than simply dropping Indy into another archaeological adventure, Imagineering is creating a story that fits the themes and environment of Animal Kingdom and the larger Tropical Americas land.

Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent will be one of three attractions within Tropical Americas.

The sprawling new land will also feature an attraction inspired by Disney’s Encanto, there will also be a carousel, along with new shopping and dining experiences.
