Autopia at Disneyland Will Be Getting Rid of Gas Powered Vehicles

It was shared in today’s LA Times that Disneyland Park will be making an update to its Autopia attraction. It will be driving away from gas powered vehicles and instead will be moving toward a more environmentally friendly option.

According to a quote from spokesperson Jessica Good, “Since opening with Disneyland park in 1955, Autopia has remained a guest-favorite most popular with young kids experiencing driving for the first time. As the industry moves toward alternative fuel sources, we have developed a roadmap to electrify this attraction and are evaluating technology that will enable us to convert from gas engines in the next few years.”

Disney didn’t share what route they will be taking. So there’s no indication of if they will be going to electric vehicles or hybrids. One would expect that they would consider making the switch to electric however. The attraction is sponsored by Honda who is certainly working to also go the EV route.

There was no word on if there would be a change to Walt Disney World’s Tomorrowland Speedway, however one would expect if the vehicles are changing at Disneyland, they would potentially also change at the Magic Kingdom.

Final Thoughts

Honestly, this is a long overdue change for Autopia and I’m surprised it’s actually taken this long. I think that this should also be done at Walt Disney World at the Tomorrowland Speedway and it would make things seem a bit more futuristic and “tomorrow” even though electric vehicles are clearly here now. It just takes things into this next century, which is always a good thing.

I’m also calling it now….the updated Test Track that’s coming will likely also feature EVs AND if they were smart….here’s my idea….make it like World of Motion 2.0 where they tell the history of vehicles still, but end with the proliferation of electric. I think it would work out WAY better than what they currently have. And given that the refurbishment there has already been announced, it makes too much sense, given that the sponsor of that attraction is Chevrolet.
