Disney Dining Review: Beaches & Cream
One of the most difficult restaurants to get into at Walt Disney World is Beaches & Cream. This is for multiple reasons. One is because the food is good and it’s definitely notorious. This is the spot where you can get the Kitchen Sink which is scoops of every ice cream flavor, as well as every topping in the place, plus a whole can of whipped cream. (A WHOLE CAN?!)
The second reason why it’s difficult to dine here is because the restaurant is actually very small. They did expand it a few years back, but even still, it’s a tiny restaurant, especially when compared to all the other Walt Disney World dining locations.
Walt Disney World Walk-Up List
So, a few weeks back, when I was down in Walt Disney World on a solo impromptu mission, I was perusing the My Disney Experience app to see what restaurants were available. Low and behold, Beaches and Cream came up for a party of 1 for the Walk-Up List! They had availability in 20 minutes.
Did you know that Walt Disney World Restaurants have a Walk-Up List for last minute dining reservations? It’s location based, so you have to be RIGHT THERE at the location. So, even though I was close by at EPCOT when the reservation first popped up, the app still said I was too far away. I had to actually leave the park and start walking over to Disney’s Beach Club Resort before it would let me make the reservation. Which is kind of a bummer in those instances when you know that you’ll be able to make it in time for your Walk-Up Reservation for a restaurant that’s close by, but I get why they do it. They want to make sure you’re REALLY serious about dining there. I do wish they were a “little” more lenient with the distance though.
I was seated quickly, though since I was a party of one, I got seated at the counter. No worries though. I was able to watch the servers create the delicious ice cream concoctions they were about to serve. So, I definitely had some entertainment with my meal.
The Food at Beaches & Cream
So, Beaches and Cream is known for all-Americana food. They serve up burgers, hot dogs, and ice cream. On this trip, I wasn’t in the mood for a burger or hot dog though. No, instead, I wanted to grab the very adult meal of chili cheese tots! (Hey….there’s meat, there’s cheese, there’s veggies….)
The tater tots were cooked to perfection. They were nice and crispy and simply delicious. Then you add the chili on top, which wasn’t spicy, but had good flavor to it. The only slight disappointment I had was the cheese. and I say slight because there’s really no way you can go wrong with cheese, but it was that “plastic” cheese that’s famous in the Disney community and I was actually expecting shredded cheese. But I quickly got over my disappointment with the salty and yummy cheesiness! And then you add the extra dash of sour cream on top! Yes!!
Of course, the only reason I got “linner” (because I went at like 3:00 p.m.) was so that I could get dessert. I mean, this is Beaches & Cream. If you aren’t getting dessert, you are doing it wrong.
I, of course, got the impeccably perfect No Way Jose! To me, this is the restaurant’s other signature dessert. It’s scoops of vanilla and chocolate ice cream, chocolate sauce, peanut butter sauce, peanut butter and chocolate chips, and whipped cream. Oh and let’s not forget the literal cherry on top!
This is what a good dessert is. There’s no ifs, ands, or buts about it. This ice cream sundae is huge and definitely sharable, though of course, I didn’t share it and ate the majority of it. Seriously, I almost had to be rolled out of the restaurant when I was done.
Final Thoughts
Beaches & Cream is definitely still a winner. I’m glad I was able to snag a reservation last minute, since it’s so hard to get normally. I’m also glad the meal was a solid choice. I can’t wait to come back again.
