PizzeRizzo: A Disney Dining Review

This past week, we had to make sure we made a stop at one of favorite terrible pizza locations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. That’s right, we had to make sure we dined at PizzeRizzo, located in the Grand Avenue area of the park, one last time.

PizzeRizzo will officially close on June 7, as well Muppet*Vision 3D to make way for the upcoming Monsters Inc Land. This quick service restaurant is a celebration of all things, Muppets. (Of course, for those who don’t remember, PizzeRizzo originally was Pizza Planet, which was also known for crappy pizza, but fun atmosphere.)
The Atmosphere at PizzaRizzo

PizzeRizzo is themed after a classic New York-style pizza joint, with a Muppet twist, courtesy of Rizzo the Rat. There are spaces to sit outside, and this is one of the dining options where there’s an upstairs level you can choose to dine at (and it is often less busy upstairs.)

But of course, my favorite room of the entire restaurant is the wedding reception-themed room.
Themed like a classic 1990s wedding reception venue, this spot features a disco ball, and the most awesome tracks playing while you eat. (I mean, you are supposed to be at a wedding reception, after all, and let me tell you, the songs that play are absolutely wedding reception bangers!) Honestly, this spot will probably be the one thing I miss the most about PizzeRizzo.
Let’s take a look at some of the great Muppet goodness that Guests could find inside:

The Menu at PizzeRizzo

Ok….let’s be honest. The food at PizzeRizzo isn’t great. I’ve never pretended it’s great. It’s classic theme park pizza. It’s heavy on bread, light on sauce, and has some cheese and toppings. (And when I say heavy on bread, half of the pizza is crust.) There is nothing spectacular about this pizza. But it was Disney pizza and this pizza I grew up on. So there’s definitely some nostalgia here for me.
One of my favorite options to get here was the kids meal, because it came with a decent sized personal pan pizza, two sides, and a drink. It was really enough food for me. So, of course, that’s what I got this one last time. And since it was me and my husband splitting the pizza, we both got the fantastic Disney chocolate chip cookies!

And since we were saying good bye, we toasted with a cannoli. Now, I was expecting just a chocolate chip cannoli, however this one definitely had orange pieces in it, which I believe is more the traditional type of cannoli, at least according to Disney, but the cannolis I’ve had at other Italian restaurants don’t typically have orange pieces, so I wasn’t expecting it. It wasn’t too overpowering, but I also didn’t love it.

Final Thoughts
PizzeRizzo, you will certainly be missed. Not for your dining options being good, but for the comfort of dining here. You’ll also be missed because we’ll be saying goodbye to some fantastic Muppet goodness, especially in a world where Disney still doesn’t quite have a great handle on what to do with the Muppets. (Some things they do with them are exceptionally good and some things completely miss the mark. PizzeRizzo was one of the good things, as far as Muppet-theming was concerned.)
So thanks for the memories, PizzeRizzo. And yes, I did have one last slow dance with my husband on the dance floor, as a final way to say goodbye. (They were playing ‘NSYNC’s “This I Promise You;” I had to!)
