Everything We Know About Monsters, Inc. Land Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Last updated: June 4, 2026
Get ready to head to Monstropolis.
Disney has officially announced that a brand-new Monsters, Inc. Land is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. The project was first revealed during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.
The new land will transport guests directly into the world of Monsters, Inc., allowing them to walk the streets of Monstropolis alongside familiar faces from the beloved Pixar film.
And perhaps most exciting of all, guests will finally get the chance to experience one of the most iconic moments from the movie for themselves: riding through the door vault on a suspended coaster!
Welcome to Monstropolis

The upcoming land will take place after the events of the original Monsters, Inc. film.
As fans may remember, Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan discovered that laughter generates significantly more power than screams. That breakthrough transformed the city and changed the relationship between monsters and humans forever.

Now, Monstropolis is preparing for something unprecedented.
For the first time, humans have been officially invited into the monster world to visit the city and experience life alongside its monster residents.
Disney describes the new area as a living, breathing version of Monstropolis, complete with bustling streets, recognizable landmarks, and immersive storytelling that places guests directly in the middle of the action.
The First-Ever Disney Suspended Coaster

One of the biggest highlights of Monsters, Inc. Land will be a groundbreaking new attraction inspired by the film’s famous door vault sequence.
For years, fans have dreamed of riding through the endless maze of doors seen during the film’s thrilling climax. Disney is finally making that dream a reality.

The attraction will feature several Disney firsts, including:
- The first suspended coaster at a Disney park
- The first-ever vertical lift on a Disney coaster
- A ride experience inspired directly by the door vault chase scene
Guests will enter the Monsters, Inc. factory before being launched into a high-energy adventure through the iconic door warehouse, placing them right in the middle of monster mayhem.

The Story Behind the Land

Disney has also revealed the narrative framework that explains why humans are now visiting Monstropolis.
The experience centers around a citywide celebration known as: H.U.M.A.N. Day. Short for: Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice
The event serves as both a celebration and a cultural exchange between the monster and human worlds.
Following the discovery that laughter is a superior energy source, attitudes toward humans have shifted dramatically. As a result, city leaders have decided to open the doors between worlds and invite humans to visit Monstropolis for the very first time.

To help facilitate this historic event, the city has established a new organization known as the Department of Human Relations. This team is dedicated to helping monsters and humans better understand one another while preparing Monstropolis for its first official human visitors.
Guests entering the land become part of this story, arriving during H.U.M.A.N. Day and experiencing the city as monsters and humans come together through laughter instead of fear.
Other Locations Coming to Life

As Monsters, Inc. Land takes shape, Disney plans to introduce a whole city, which will include both, Harryhausen’s, the famous sushi restaurant seen in the original movie, as well as The Glob Theater, which will showcase a brand new show for the land.
Disney has also teased vibrant streetscapes, active industries, and detailed environments designed to make guests feel like they’ve stepped directly into Pixar’s monster-filled metropolis.
(Also, The City Frightful?! Such a cute play on The City Beautiful, which is Orlando’s motto!)
Final Thoughts
Monsters, Inc. Land promises to deliver exactly what fans have always wanted: the chance to step inside the world of Monstropolis.
Between the groundbreaking door coaster, immersive city streets, beloved characters, and detailed storytelling built around H.U.M.A.N. Day, Disney appears to be creating an experience that goes far beyond a traditional themed land.
While Disney has not yet announced an opening date, one thing is certain: laughter will be powering the city when guests finally walk through those doors!
