Expedition Everest Single Rider Line Closing September 21: What Disney World Guests Need to Know

A major change is coming to one of Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s most popular attractions. Beginning September 21, 2026, Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain will no longer offer a Single Rider line.

Disney has recently been testing a new loading process at Expedition Everest that separates guests based on whether they are traveling in parties with even or odd numbers. The change has resulted in lower average waits for the regular standby queue, making the attraction’s separate Single Rider line less useful.

Here’s what you need to know about the change.

Why Is Expedition Everest Removing Single Rider?

Single Rider lines are typically designed to help fill empty seats that remain after larger groups are loaded onto an attraction. However, Disney’s recent testing at the attraction has introduced a different approach to loading the coaster.

What Is Expedition Everest?

Located in the Asia section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Expedition Everest sends guests racing through the icy peaks of the Himalayas aboard a speeding train.

Of course, things don’t exactly go according to plan.

The journey brings riders face-to-face with the legendary Yeti, resulting in a high-speed adventure that includes twists, drops and even a section where your train races backward through the mountain.

It’s been one of Animal Kingdom’s signature thrill rides.

Are Other Disney World Single Rider Lines Going Away?

No. The Single Rider lines at other Walt Disney World attractions will remain. The change applies specifically to Expedition Everest.

Reminder: The Yeti Is FINALLY Coming Back to Life!

There’s another BIG change on the way for Expedition Everest. As a reminder, during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026, Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum announced that Disney is bringing the Yeti Audio-Animatronic back to life.

Disney has not announced when the work will be completed or whether the attraction will need to close while the Yeti is repaired. The company also hasn’t provided technical details about exactly how much movement will be restored.
