Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin will reopen at Magic Kingdom with significant gameplay improvements that make it easier for guests to aim, track scores, and interact with targets while helping Buzz defeat Emperor Zurg.
What’s New for Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin?
The updated version of Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin will feature several enhancements designed to make the attraction more immersive and easier to play. These updates will improve gameplay while still keeping the same mission Space Rangers know and love, defeating the evil Emperor Zurg.
Meet Buddy, the New Support-Bot

One of the most exciting additions to the attraction is a brand-new character named Buddy.
Buddy serves as a support-bot for departing Space Rangers, helping prepare Guests for their mission to stop Emperor Zurg. Before boarding their Star Cruisers, Space Rangers will receive encouragement and system checks from Buddy, along with an opportunity to practice their blaster aim before heading into battle.
This new character adds another layer of storytelling and interaction to the attraction.
New Ride Vehicles with Real-Time Scoring
The attraction will also feature updated ride vehicles, giving Space Rangers even more feedback during their mission.
Each Star Cruiser will now include video monitors displaying real-time scoring updates, allowing riders to keep track of their progress. These enhancements will make the game element of the attraction more engaging and easier to follow.
Handheld Blasters Are Finally Here
Perhaps the most exciting update of all is the addition of handheld blasters.
Previously, the blasters were mounted to the ride vehicles, making it difficult for many Guests to aim accurately. With the new design, Space Rangers will be able to hold and aim their blasters freely, dramatically improving gameplay.
Even better, each Star Cruiser will now feature two different colored blasters, making it easier for players to see exactly where they are aiming.
The blasters will also include sound and vibration effects, helping riders know when they are successfully targeting enemies throughout the mission.
Interactive Targets That React When Hit
Another major improvement involves the attraction’s Z-shaped targets.
The new technology will allow targets to light up and react when they are hit, making the gameplay far more interactive. This change will help Space Rangers clearly see when they’ve scored points during the mission.
A Much-Needed Upgrade for Tomorrowland
Between the new handheld blasters, upgraded ride vehicles, interactive targets, and the addition of Buddy, this refurbishment represents the most significant update Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin has received since the attraction first opened.
For many Guests, myself included, the previous version could be frustrating due to blasters that were difficult to aim and unclear scoring. These new updates should make the experience far more enjoyable for everyone.
Honestly? It’s about time, and it’s a very welcome change.
