Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Reopens Spring 2026 With New Magical Effects

The wildest ride in the wilderness, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, is reopening this spring at Magic Kingdom! When it reopens, it will include touches of new magic and an incredibly thorough refurbishment.
The classic runaway train adventure closed on January 6, 2025, and Disney Imagineers have been hard at work bringing new life, and new surprises, to one of Walt Disney World’s most beloved coasters.
What’s New For Big Thunder Mountain Railroad?
The attraction will reopen with the same action and adventure we know and love, but Guests will notice changes immediately when the train heads underground. They’ll see spectacular natural caverns full of phosphorescent pools, as well as shimmering and illuminating iridescent stalagmites and stalactites.
However, while, beautiful, there’s something menacing deep within the mountains. Uh oh! What could that mean?

Disney has confirmed a spring reopening, though an exact date has not yet been announced.
