Disney has shared that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at the Magic Kingdom will be closing beginning on January 6, 2025 for a lengthy refurbishment.
When the Frontierland attraction reopens sometime in 2026, it will be enhanced with “new magic”.
While not confirmed, it’s pretty clear the attraction is closing as work begins on the new Cars attractions, as well as the new Villains Land that will be opening in the Magic Kingdom in the next few years.
It’s my hope that when Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopens, it will include the incredible final dynamite scene that’s currently at the Disneyland Resort’s version. It’s been rumored for years that we’d be getting that update, but it’s never actually happened.
