In a move that I’m super (haha) happy about….the Disney Destiny will be introducing, for the first time ever, a Broadway-style stage show based on the animated film “Hercules”. I’ve said this film needed this kind of stage treatment for a long time, so it’s exciting to see it’s finally happening.
“Disney Hercules” will stay true to the story and spirit of the film. However, it will include a fresh, contemporary retelling too, centered around the legendary soundtrack. The show will feature iconic songs like “Go the Distance,” “Zero to Hero” and “I Won’t Say I’m in Love,” through new musical arrangements inspired by the soulfulness of gospel music with the energy of a pop concert.
In addition to all of the songs from the film, “Disney Hercules” will include the theatrical debut of “Shooting Star,” a heartfelt ballad originally written for the movie by Alan Menken and David Zippel.
All of your favorite gods, mortals and mythical beings from the movie will be part of the story. Many will be represented in surprising new ways.
Like the film, the Muses will be the show’s storytellers. Also, award-winning puppet designer Michael Curry is bringing to life some of this tale’s most larger-than-life characters through jaw-dropping puppetry, like the multi-headed Hydra monster.
Developed exclusively for the Disney Destiny, “Disney Hercules” will be one of three stage shows aboard the new ship, along with fan-favorites “Frozen, A Musical Spectacular” and “Disney Seas the Adventure.”
