We’ve all known that a Cars-inspired area is coming to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Disney shared today that this area is going to be called Piston Peak National Park.
Liberty Square to Frontierland will still tell a story. Guests will move from New York and colonial America in Liberty Square, to the the North Woods with Country Bear Musical Jamboree, to then New Orleans at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and ending in the Arizona bluffs at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
Piston Peak, while fictional, is actually inspired by the Rocky Mountains and the love of national parks.
Inside Piston Peak, Guests will be able to see and explore the visitor lodge, Ranger HQ, trails and more all set within the “Cars” universe.
To make sure these buildings fit naturally within the surrounding majestic landscapes, Imagineers are using a style of architecture called “Parkitecture.” Developed by the National Park Service, the goal was to create structures that harmonize with the natural environment.
From the outside, trees will provide a natural barrier between the off-road rally and other parts of Frontierland and Liberty Square. The area will included rugged mountains with dramatic peaks. There will even be a calming waterway across from Grizzly Hall and the soaring geysers from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will stretch into the trails of the off-road rally attraction.
This section of the park will feature two new attractions.
One attraction will invite you on a thrilling rally race through the mountains. Guests will take on wild terrain as you race across the landscape. You’ll climb mountain trails, dodge geysers and splash through mudholes.
The second attraction is slated to be geared towards smaller racers. It will be fun for the whole family.
Piston Peak National Park will be part of the largest expansion in the history of Magic Kingdom.
Of course, we’ve known that this new Cars-themed area would be replacing the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat. These will close beginning July 7. More details can be found here.
