Hmmmm……this is definitely an interesting development. According to reports, Disney has filed a permit for work at the former site of the NBA Experience at Disney Springs. The permit states that the building is set to undergo “General construction / Demo” work.
As of right now, It is unknown what Walt Disney World has in store to replace the space that has sat empty for almost 4 years. (The attraction closed in March 2020 due to the pandemic. Disney shared that the attraction was closed permanently back on August 2021.)
Even when announced, the NBA Experience was always an interesting choice. Many questioned why it was being considered as a replacement to DisneyQuest. The attraction included more than 13 interactive basketball activities. These included games where you could dunk, shoot, dribble, slingshot, and there were event arcades.
The NBA Experience didn’t have a long life-span, as it only opened in August 2019. Due to its nature of the type of attraction it was, the location definitely struggled to gain a following among Guests and the pandemic was simply the final nail in the coffin for it.
To be honest, I think the NBA Experience would have closed by now no matter whether it was due to the pandemic or not. It was another one of those experiments that they tried, much like the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser that just couldn’t get off the ground. I am curious as to what they have in mind to replace the NBA Experience though. It’s a large space and they really could do some interesting things there. I am anxious to learn what they may have up their sleeves.
But what do you think? What would you like to see replace the NBA Experience? Let me know in the comments!
