New Cars Attractions Replacing Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom

It was announced at the D23 Expo this past weekend that we would be seeing two new Cars attractions coming to the Magic Kingdom in Frontierland, but the question everyone was asking was “where?” We now know where, though it may disappoint some of you.

This new section is actually going to be situated in the space where Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America currently sit.

For those that missed it, the idea behind these new Walt Disney World attractions isn’t that we are going to Radiator Springs. Nope….that will still be its own land in Disney California Adventure. Instead, we’re leaving Radiator Springs and heading west into the frontier!

The new area will bring you along for the ride with a brand-new thrilling rally race through the mountains, climbing trails, and dodging geysers. In addition there will be a second attraction geared towards fun for the whole family.

Don’t worry though! Fans of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America will still have a chance to say goodbye. Work won’t really start until sometime next year.

Final Thoughts

Yes…I’ll definitely miss the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. They are both great respites to get away from the hustle and bustle of the park. But to be honest, it’s time. These areas take up a massive amount of space and the park is just too busy for this massive real estate to go mostly unused.

Really am quite surprised to hear that they will be building two Cars attraction at the Magic Kingdom. Not because it’s at the Magic Kingdom. I actually really like how they are tying the theme in with Frontierland. Instead, I’m surprised due to the fact that I assume this attraction will close down a lot for weather and well, Florida is known for their random thunderstorms that just pop up out of nowhere. It causes a lot of downtime at Test Track. So, I hope they can fix the issues with the massive downtime.

Other than that….I’m super excited about these two new attractions coming in the next few years! I mean look at that concept art! These attractions look like they are going to be fire. The main one really looks like it’s going to be incredible. And I love that they are giving love to little ones with an attraction themed for the whole family too!
