Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin to Close in August for Refurbishment

Guests will only have until early August to ride the current version of Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World! That’s because the attraction closes on August 4, 2025 to make way for the previously announced refurbishment of the attraction that will take place into 2026.

What’s Coming to Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin?

First, the Tomorrowland attraction will see Guests greeted by a brand new character named Buddy! Buddy will be a support-bot. His goal is to make sure departing Space Rangers are fully prepared for their mission. He’ll provide encouragement, final system checks on their Star Cruisers and a chance to hone their blaster aim.

The attraction will also get new ride vehicles which will be enhanced with video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates and other exciting features.

One of those exiting updates for the ride vehicles and the one that makes me the happiest…handheld blasters!!! This means that Guests will have better aim, allowing Guests to score more points. And to help aid in scoring, the blasters will now be two different colors per star cruiser. There will also be new sound and vibration effects so players know where they’re aiming throughout the mission.

Finally, the static Z targets will see upgrades. They will feature new technology that will allow them to react and light up when hit!

Honestly, all of this is HUGELY welcomed, at least by me. I will hardly ride Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin because I can never get my gun to work and can’t see where I’m aiming. These additions are certainly going to make the attraction more enjoyable for me.
