Breakfast at Boma: A Disney Dining Review

On a recent trip, we stayed at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, so we decided to give Boma’s breakfast a try. I’m gonna let you in on a little secret, though I really kind of don’t want to. Boma is the hidden gem of Disney breakfasts.

Boma is a buffet and it serves up both American breakfast specialties, but they also serve dishes with African flair! And let me tell you…the food is GOOD! I’m not one who usually goes back up to buffets for seconds….it’s just not really in my nature. I get what I want usually the first go round and then fill up, so I don’t feel like getting seconds, but at Boma….I absolutely went back for another round!

The Food at Boma

Like I mentioned, there are definitely American breakfast specialties on the menu. There are things like bacon, eggs, pancakes, and yes, Disney Waffles. (Both Mickey and Simba are available!). There’s a healthy row of pastries and breads. And for those who love a good charcuterie, you can make a breakfast option with delicious meats and cheeses.

But then some things on the menu have African flair, like the roast meats with the African-inspired sauces. There are also plantains, and I’m always a fan of plaintains! And you can’t skip the delicious coconut-steel cut oatmeal. An Avocado, Papaya, and Grapefruit salad was also available, as well as turkey bobotie. And that’s just the start. Overall, the offerings at this buffet are some of the most expansive I’ve seen at a Disney buffet.

But, my favorite thing was something that I created kind of on a whim and it’s become the thing I dream about. On the buffet, they have a cinnamon roll bread pudding. And with that delicious treat is a praline pecan sauce, as well as a vanilla sauce. Well, I decided, you know what would make a Mickey Waffle even better? Putting both the praline pecan sauce, as well as the vanilla sauce on the waffle. And let me tell you….game changer! 15/10!

Final Thoughts

Yes, I’ll admit, Boma isn’t a cheap breakfast. No Disney buffet is. (It’s the nature of an all-you-care-to-enjoy restaurant.) However, it is a little less expensive because there are no characters here. And while I’ve had Boma for dinner somewhat recently (which is also simply yummy) and had their breakfast in the past, this dining experience put this restaurant back in my dining rotation on a regular basis. Yes, it’s a little difficult to get to, but to me, it’s worth the trek over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge!

But now I want to know what you think? Have you dined at Boma for breakfast recently? What were your thoughts? You can share with me in the comments or on social! Find me on FacebookXYouTubeInstagram, Threads, and TikTok.
