Big Changes Coming Allowing Guests To Select Lightning Lane Options Ahead of Time

BIG changes are coming for the way Guests will vacation at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland moving forward. This summer, changes will be made to to the Disney Genie+ service, including new ways to plan ahead.

Beginning July 24, Walt Disney World will revamp Disney Genie+. The service will officially become Lightning Lane Multi Pass, while individual Lightning Lane will now be known as Lightning Lane Single Pass.

Here are the changes that are going to take place:

  • Make plans before you visit
  • Choose your experiences and times prior to purchasing, so you know what you’re getting
  • Book passes for multiple vacation days, all in a single day

How Will Lightning Lane Work Beginning July 24?

Lightning Lane Multi Pass

When you purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you will have the ability to make up to 3 attraction selections in a theme park, in advance of your visit. You’ll also be able to choose available times as you make your selections.

On the day of your visit, once you use a selection, you’ll be able to check the My Disney Experience app for availability to make an additional attraction selections.

Lightning Lane Single Pass

Lightning Lane Single Pass will work much like it already does. Guests can secure a time to ride the park’s most popular attractions, but you’ll now be able to make your purchase and plan in advance.

How Can You Plan Ahead?

By having the opportunity to pre-plan your selections, it will allow Guests the chance to choose times that work best for your schedule, like working with dining reservations or any other plans that have been pre-planned.

Guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel and other select hotels will be able to plan their attractions up to 7 days in advance beginning at 7:00 a.m., for their entire stay (up to 14 days). All other Guests will have the opportunity to plan up to 3 days in advance beginning at 7:00 a.m.

Guests may purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, a Lightning Lane Single Pass or both. There will also be a new option where you can purchase both in one transaction.

Here’s How It Will Work

When Will Disneyland Introduce This Service?

Disneyland Resort will also use the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass names beginning July 24. However, Guests who visit the Disneyland Resort will still purchase, select and redeem passes in the same way they currently do.

What Will Happen to Disney Genie?

Well, that particular service will be retired, or at least the name will be. The complimentary features of Disney Genie service will continue to be available in the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps.

Final Thoughts

You know…I never once bought Disney Genie+ or Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World. The way that I travel, it just wasn’t conducive. I would never be able to get good times and it just seemed like a waste of money, to be honest. With this new way though….I might actually consider purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Pass. It seems like a much easier way to ensure the attractions you want to experience, and it mimics FastPass+ in a way that makes the whole process not seem SO daunting.

Truthfully, I’m still not sure if I’ll end up buying either of these options, but the chances are certainly better.

But now, I want to know your thoughts. Will you take advantage of either of these choices now? You can share with me in the comments or on social! Find me on FacebookXYouTubeInstagram, Threads, and TikTok.
